Aims and Scope

Journal of Building Design and Environment is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal focused on advancing the science and technology of building design, construction, and performance with an emphasis on innovative, sustainable, and intelligent solutions. The journal aims to serve researchers, engineers, architects, and practitioners who work on the development and application of cutting-edge technologies and materials to improve the efficiency, resilience, and environmental compatibility of buildings and their components.

The journal particularly encourages submissions in the following areas:
• Intelligent construction technologies and smart building systems
• Advanced building materials and composites
• Structural design, analysis, and health monitoring
• Building energy efficiency and performance optimization
• Sustainable building technologies and zero-energy building solutions
• Digital tools in building design and construction (e.g., BIM, digital twins)
• Artificial intelligent solutions in construction engineering and management
• Building envelope engineering and facade technologies
• Indoor environmental quality focused on physical and technical aspects (thermal, visual, acoustic, air quality)
• Integration of renewable energy systems in buildings
• Lifecycle assessment and environmental impact of building materials and technologies

To maintain a clear focus on scientific and technological innovation, starting from June 2025, the journal does not generally consider manuscripts primarily centered on policy analysis, management practices, or administrative frameworks.

We welcome interdisciplinary work that bridges materials science, structural engineering, building physics, and intelligent systems, fostering advances that contribute to sustainable and high-performance built environments.
