Special Issue Information

Sustainable construction management represents a cornerstone of modern engineering practices, as the global construction industry seeks to balance environmental responsibility, operational efficiency, and human well-being. Optimizing the cost, time, and quality of construction projects while managing the safety and health of workers is critical to advancing sustainability in built environments.

Recent technological advancements have accelerated the integration of optimization, safety, and health, with digital tools such as AI, digital twins, IoT sensors, and data analytics enabling smarter optimization that embeds safety protocols, predictive health risk assessments, and sustainable resource allocation. These innovations are redefining how the industry balances project performance goals with safety and health imperatives. In practice, however, integrating these pillars remains complex, as construction projects often face trade-offs between cost/time optimization and safety/health investments, alongside challenges in scaling integrated practices across diverse project contexts.

This Special Issue focuses on actionable advances in sustainable construction management that bridge optimization, safety, and health in real-life projects. We seek contributions that showcase theoretical frameworks, empirical research, case studies, and technical methodologies, covering topics such as resilient supply chain optimization, resource allocation with health co-benefits, digital twin applications in construction management, and AI-driven safety-risk assessment and mitigation. By highlighting practical insights and scalable solutions, this Special Issue aims to support industry professionals in translating sustainable construction management principles into tangible outcomes, ultimately advancing a construction sector that is both sustainable and human-centric.
